I spent more than ten years in law enforcement, all of it on the street in uniform patrol. I've been a patrol officer, instructor, sergeant and lieutenant.

Any misdemeanor offense can carry a penalty of three months. So, pretty much anything from driving with a suspended license to shoplifting to punching his wife.

All use of force, including a dog bite, is governed by federal and state law. There can be civil and/or criminal repercussions for the unlawful application of force. Graham v. Unless they have been adjudicated to be mentally ill, then probably. Laws vary from state to state, and many states ignore the Second Amendment anyway. So, check your local laws and don't take legal advice (which this is not) from a guy on the internet.

It depends on the circumstances. Detectives go through a lot of training to learn how to interview people and how to investigate homicides. It is far to in-depth of a question for me to answer.
